Metalloproteins help in jaundice by the following mechanism:

Metalloproteins help in jaundice by the following mechanism:

A. Increased glucoronyl transferase activity
B. Inhibit heme oxygenase
C. Decrease RBC lysis
D. Increase Y and Z receptors

Answer is B. Inhibit heme oxygenase.

Metalloproteins such as tin porphyrins diminish production of bile pigments by inhibition of heme oxygenase.

Tin and Zinc porphyrins and mesoporphyrins inhibit the activity of heme oxygenase and thus decrease the formation of bilirubin.
